Amit Shah Inaugurates Gujarat Gaurav Sarovar in Amreli, Celebrates Water Conservation Mission

Amreli, Gujarat | August 27, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Gujarat Gaurav Sarovar at Dudhala in Amreli district, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat’s continuing journey towards water conservation and sustainable development.

Constructed by the Harikrishna Group and Dholakia Foundation, the Gujarat Gaurav Sarovar is spread across approximately 21 acres and has a reported storage capacity of around 400 million litres. The reservoir is designed to support water availability for agriculture and drinking purposes while contributing to groundwater conservation in the region.

Amit Shah Highlights the Power of Water Conservation

Addressing the gathering, Shri Amit Shah emphasised that conserving every drop of rainwater and improving groundwater levels can play a critical role in protecting communities from drought.

He highlighted Gujarat’s transformation in water management and pointed to initiatives such as check dams, irrigation development and the distribution of Narmada water as important components of the state’s water-security journey.

The Union Home Minister also praised the contribution of Savji Dholakia and the Dholakia Foundation, noting their work in developing and rejuvenating water bodies. According to reports from the event, the wider conservation initiative associated with the Dholakia Foundation has reached 208 lakes and sarovars.
